More money. The very thought of it brings visions of happiness.

For most people, however, the money they make in a month's time is only enough to cover everyday living expenses, such as food, clothing, gas or public transportation costs, utility bills, and insurance. Living paycheck to paycheck is very difficult... even more so when you are longing to save at least a few hundreds for an upcoming event or for a much-needed vacation or for your child's college fund. Looking Out for Better Opportunities

Money is an item we all need to live. Money cannot buy – or shouldn’t buy, at least - family and friends. It cannot buy a happy attitude, void of cynicism and depressing thoughts. It can’t buy how well you love and care for your loved ones and how you interact with your co-workers and your friends. However, without money, you can’t buy things that you would otherwise enjoy, whether it is a nicer vehicle, a new gaming console, or even a little vacation.

When you’re on a strict budget, it’s hard to see the light in the situation. If you are married, there will be fights over how often, or how little, you eat out at a restaurant or how much is put towards the savings account at the end of the month. If you are single, you will probably be kicking yourself in the butt for spending your money foolishly. For those who are struggling to make ends meet and can’t seem to get past living paycheck to paycheck, perhaps you need to take a step back and evaluate the situation.

If your employer is a department store chain that pays you just above the minimum hourly wage, then perhaps it’s time to consider a new career. It is never, ever too late to go back to school and start a new career. Explore a new path. Find something you would love to do. Once you find something you love to do, then it will never be just another day on the job. Maybe you can even open up a business! Quite too often, it is the road less taken. People often get comfortable in the position they are in, despite the complaints that pour out of their mouths and that endless nagging feeling that they could be doing more with their life. They can become unmotivated and simply accept that this is what they were meant to do.

If you have devoted your time, sweat, and tears at your workplace and it seems to go unnoticed, then maybe you need to find a company that will appreciate your efforts and recognize you for your accomplishments. Do some research, and look up companies in your field of work.

For those of you who feel they are getting paid what they should be getting paid and still can’t get ahead in regards to their finances, then other factors need to be looked at. Where do you live? How much is your monthly rent or your mortgage payment? What kind of vehicle are you driving? Where do you buy your food and clothing?

There are many factors you need to take into consideration if you want to start making more than you’re worth so you can start saving for your future.

Why is it that the married couple next door are going into foreclosure despite their high-paying jobs?
Why is it that Uncle Bill, entrepreneur and self-made millionaire with the fancy things, still uses cash advance companies to forward him some extra dough?
Why is it that although your doctor makes well over $100,000 per year, he has to file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy?

The answer is quite simple, yet it escapes the vast majority of people living not only in the United States but to those who are living in other countries as well. The answer is to live below your means.

A common mistake people often make is to spend more with every pay increase they get. Every bonus check and every overtime check is used to purchase more material instead of being put away into a savings account. That big promotion at work may be landing you a few extra thousands per year, but that should not be reason enough to buy a house that is $100-200,000 more than what you can afford. It doesn’t mean you should immediately buy that fancy car, no matter how tempting it is to drive away in a brand new Ferrari 360 Modena. It doesn’t mean to blow all that hard-earned money on weekly dinners at the most expensive upscale restaurant in your city.

But that also does not mean you should restrict yourself from all fun. It doesn’t mean you should never buy that flat screen TV you’ve always wanted or to skip out on that vacation to Jamaica that you’ve wanted to go to. It’s okay to indulge once in a while. After all, you did work to make the money, so you have every right to spend it. Just be responsible with it. Life feels much better when it is going smoothly, and being debt-free certainly does help. Plus, having thousands in your savings puts your mind at ease when there is an emergency or an unforeseen event, such as you or your spouse being laid off, or worse, an illness.
